Viruses, Spyware, HiJackers vs. Firewalls (hardware + software)

Virus Removal
Run Trend Micro Online Virus Checker over the internet (Free)
Download & Run AVG (Free) [or Pay, Download, & Run NOD32 (Best Antivirus - $39)]

Spyware Removal [not a problem yet on the MAC]
Run Microsoft AntiSpyware (Free)
Run Spybot Search & Destroy (1.4) (Free)
Run Enigma Software Group's SpyHunter (2.0) (Free to Scan)
Run Webroot Spy Audit's Spy Sweeper (4.5) (Free to Scan & recommended by Dell)
Run HijackThis (Free) to detect any browser hijack problems.

Install a router with stateful packet inspection (SPI) as your hardware firewall to prevent inbound unsolicited packets (e.g. harmful packets from a Hacker including worms, viruses, & spam zombies) from entering your computer using either Cisco/Linksys BEFSX41 or WRT54G (Wireless)

Install Sygate (Free) software firewall (will monitor outbound connections and better than Norton or Symantec especially when using a router as your primary inbound hardware based firewall)

Use Firefox as your browser not Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Notes on Creating a Bootable Antivirus CD using the free AVG antivirus program: in the alternative, if your computer still has a virus, another more thorough way to disinfect your system is to make an Antivirus CD on an "uninfected" computer and place that Antivirus CD in a CD or DVD drive of the "infected" computer and restart your system. Your computer should start the AVG program and attempt to clean your system.

(Note: If your computer does not start the AVG program, your computer may not be configured to start from a CD. You then need to change your BIOS to boot from CD.) Link

Last resort Geeks On Call or Geek Squad will come to your home or office to fix it for $$$.
