Apple Sells One Million iPads in 28 days!

On Friday shoppers waited on line outside the 14th Street Apple store in Manhattan to purchase the new iPad 3G. Apple on Monday announced that it has sold one million iPads as of Friday last week, a faster sales pace than the iPhone.

Apple also said users have downloaded more than 12 million applications from the iTunes app store and that 1.5 million books have been downloaded through Apple’s iBookstore. The iBookstore sells books only for the iPAd, but Apple said it expected to sell books for the iPhone later this year.

Apple also said that there are now 5,000 iPad specific apps available for the device. The top-selling application in the App Store have remained relatively unchanged since the device went on sale last month. Currently Apple’s own productivity suite including Pages, Numbers and Keynote, all analogous to Microsoft’s Office products, remain the top grossing Apps along with the games Pinball, Real Racing HD and Scrabble.

Kissing Cousins: Verizon Dumps Nexus One Because Incredible Is Better

Google’s Nexus One phone was supposed to be the Internet giant’s big entrance into the mobile market. It was the first so-called “Google Phone” in that Google was entirely in charge of selling the thing, and it carried the Google branding in a more prominent way than other Android devices. Today, the Nexus One just got kicked in the pants — big time — and it’s Google fault.

Verizon, the nation’s largest wireless carrier, will not sell the device. Big deal, you might think — after all, the carrier also doesn’t sell the iPhone, and it seems to be doing just fine. The problem for the Nexus One though, is that Verizon had originally agreed to sell the device. In fact, Google announced the partnership at its Nexus One unveiling event in January. So what happened?

Apple's iPad camera adapter supports USB audio, keyboards

Camera kit will work with most any USB headphone, headset or microphone. This makes it possible to either listen to music or take a VoIP call through off-the-shelf computer accessories. The call quality via VoIP was reportedly "terrific," making it more appealing to use Skype if you don't have a Bluetooth headsets.

Meanwhile, TUAW found that USB keyboards will work as well, although this was partly expected given the functionality of the official iPad Keyboard Dock. The convenience of the USB keyboard is also reduced as there's no stand when using the adapter.

SIP Phones and Voice In The Cloud

Yesterday evening, I got a SNOM M3 phone that I had ordered from Amazon. I unpacked it and charged the phone. While it was charging, I pointed my web browser to onsip.com and set up a 30 day free trial account. It took me about five minutes to set up an account, one user, and get a phone number. I then took down the sip configuration data from the onsip account I had set up.
I went back to the M3 which was still charging, and plugged the base station into my home network. The phone gave me its IP address on my home network. I then pointed my web browser to that IP address and entered the sip configuration data into my phone's configuration. And then I rebooted the phone's base station.

That whole process took about ten minutes, maybe less. I then picked up the M3, dialed a number, and made a phone call.
I then walked down the street to our new apartment. I plugged the base station into our internet network in our new apartment, picked up the M3, and made a call.

Contrast this to the experience of getting a phone line provisioned from Verizon or any other traditional phone company. That requires talking to someone, getting a tech to come out and provision the line, and then running wires around the house or office.
