GRT 190G ($2,500) & TR1A ($2,000) - The GRT is Sony's first notebook to function as a real entertainment center, allowing users to not only watch DVDs and live TV and record favorite programs, but also to create and easily edit their own DVDs.
At 3.11 pounds, the TR1 (512 meg ram; 30 gig hd; DVD/CD-RW; USB 2.0) is the lightest laptop on the U.S. market to be equipped with Centrino, Intel's (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ) latest chip, Sony says. Thanks to Centrino, the TR1 offers a built-in wireless Internet connection. It also runs cooler and for a longer period of time. Sony promises up to seven hours of battery life from an Intel Pentium processor running at 900 MHz.
TR1 is also equipped with a 10.6-inch screen using the latest XBRITE polysilicon technology. We've seen the new screen, and it's indeed brighter than comparable screens on the market. Sony says XBRITE ensures crisp, vivid TV viewing and DVD playback.
