A switch to a 64-bit version of the PowerPC would make more sense. Oddly, Dvorak doesn't mention IBM's (NYSE: IBM - news) PowerPC 970 at all. IBM also has deep pockets and could invest in Apple if it were interested in propping up a customer for its new 64-bit PowerPC chips.
